From special occasions to Birthdays and Anniversaries, flowers are the perfect gift! However, sometimes it’s hard to decipher what type of floral arrangement or bouquet is appropriate for the event. In Victorian times, there was a whole secret language and art in sending someone flowers. For example, Chrysanthemums meant condolences. They would often pair them in a bouquet with Willow if it was for a friend in grief or with Gladiolus to signal a broken heart. Nowadays, we aren’t as particular in the pairings of flowers but here’s a few tips and tricks to help you pick out which arrangement or bouquet you’d like to send to someone you care about.
Lets start off with the basics and some vocabulary which you might find helpful in picking out what you want to send.
Generally, if something is a bouquet that means it does not include a vase! Typically these are going to be wrapped in paper or cellophane. Bouquets are the easy choice when you are gifting someone flowers. They are perfect for almost every occasion such as: Birthdays, Anniversaries, Sympathy Occasions, Promotions, Graduations, etc.
When a design is called an arrangement that usually signals that the flowers will come in a vase. An amazing florist took their time and one-of-a-kind artistry skills to arrange them in a vase. Arranged flowers are the way to go when you are worried about the longevity of the arrangement, unlike bouquets the flowers are in a vase with water. Keeping the flowers hydrated is key in the freshness and beauty in the design. In another post we can go over the pro’s and con’s of bouquet versus arrangements.
Once you figure out if you are going to get a bouquet or an arrangement the rest is easy! Any kind of up-beat, happy event is best represented with bold bright colors! Colorful arrangements and bouquets are a great option. If the mood of the occasion is more solemn, such as sympathy or a funeral service, it’s best to stick to an all white theme or mainly white with a pop of color such as green or blue.
