Succulents are one of the most popular plants today. The main reason they are one of the most popular plants because they require such low maintenance. With our busy lives, it's quite difficult juggling everything, on top of taking care of a plant. Having plants around is just good for your spirits. Plants give off great energy. They even improve air quality by eliminating harmful toxins in the air. Even though they are considered one of the most easiest plants to care for in the world, people still kill them. How can I kill one of the most easiest plants in the world? Many people are fascinated with succulents. They come in all different shapes, sizes, colors and varieties. What's not to love? They are all so different and unique. Knowing a little bit more about these fascinating plants may help you better tend to these hardy plants.
Where do they come from?
These plants have adapted to survive a while without water. Many are found in Africa, Central America, the European Alps and South America. They are found in partly dessert areas. Succulents aren't cactus, but very similar. Usually succulents are found in places that receive a bit more rain than desserts.
How do you care for a succulent?
Water ONCE a month is the typical answer we tell our customers. Honestly, in the winter time you can water them even less. Usually every 2 or sometimes 3 months. It depends on where your succulent is located. If they are in a very dry area in the house that receive a lot of light, then a good watering once a month should be just fine. But if it's in a humid place like the bathroom then once ever couple months should be just fine. The general rule of thumb is water once a month. It's better to under water than over water. So many people come into the store and say "But my succulent looks dry...can I water it more?" No! Ignore them. That's the hardest part. A fun fact about succulents is sometimes if the plant is extremely dry, roots will start growing on the actual plant. The roots are searching for water.
How much light should succulents receive?
Succulents love light. The bright light helps them grow like they are in their natural environment. If a succulent isn't getting enough light they "stretch" to it. You may notice that your once plump succulent with fat leaves is now looking "leggy" and the leaves are further apart instead of closer together.
