Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year for florists. The day starts early and ends late in the evening. There is so much to do for us to prepare. Florists work tirelessly to ensure that our customers receive beautiful flower arrangements that we work very hard to design. Here is the run down of our day as florists on our biggest holiday, Valentine’s Day.
Early Start
The day begins early. We need to get to the shop before all of our customers get to work so we have time to set up. We have to get the flowers that are stored in the cooler out on display, make sure all of our arrangements that we prepared the night before are fresh, and all of the orders for the day are ready to go out on the trucks. We also need time to get the day's shipment of flowers out on the sales floor so our customers can buy them. This is also when we finish up the day’s orders. We start getting the trucks loaded and make sure our drivers are routed so they are able to deliver quickly and efficiently. We do a lot of preparation in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, but in the morning is when the finishing touches are done to ensure the day runs smoothly. We make extra arrangements, bouquets, and whatever else needs to be done. It’s important to get done whatever we can as early as possible because we will be busy nonstop with customers from the time we open the doors to the time we lock up at night.
Midday Rush
As the day progresses, the shop gets busier and busier. Between walk-in customers, last minute delivery requests, and other customer questions, we stay busy all day. Florists need to make arrangements, assist customers, and answer phones that don't stop ringing. All of our staff have a designated job. Someone is there to answer the phone, someone assists with pick ups, someone is wrapping bouquets, someone is making arrangements, someone is on the sales floor, and someone is ringing the register. Everyone has an important job to do.
Delivery
The most important job on Valentine's Day is delivery. We have a large delivery team that delivers all throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.. The packages are separated by zip code and routed by the driver so they can get their deliveries done as quickly as possible. Each arrangement is packaged, boxed, and labeled ready to bring joy to someone’s day.
Customer Pickups
All throughout the day we have customers picking up orders that were placed earlier in the week. We make sure each arrangement is done based on the time the customer told us they would be in to pick up. We separate orders based on pick up time so the earlier ones are in front. This makes looking for orders a bit simpler.
The Final Push
As closing time approaches, everyone is just now leaving work. Now is the time when customers are coming in to grab those flowers on their way home. We work hard to fulfill every request. We know that each arrangement is filled with love and appreciation.
Closing Time
After a long and hectic day, it’s finally closing time. Florists take a moment to breathe and reflect on the joy they helped create. It’s time to clean up the shop and prepare for the next day. For all of the people that couldn’t send flowers for Valentine’s Day, they place their orders for the 15th. So the day after can be pretty busy too. When it’s all over and everyone has their flowers for Valentine’s Day, there is a huge sense of satisfaction that consumes us. We love Valentine’s Day!
